Thirty years of successful collaboration

Hookway has enjoyed a long and successful working relationship with St Mary Redcliffe and Temple Secondary School (SMRT). The school, the only Church of England Voluntary Aided Secondary School in Bristol, is a very well managed,  modern and forward thinking establishment and we work very closely with both the property team and the staff to enhance their built assets and help them to plan for the future.

From fixing a roof to rebuilding the main school

Over the years Hookway has managed a wide range of different building and maintenance projects for St Mary Redcliffe and Temple. We were employed to advise on the rebuilding of the main school block, as part of the Building Schools for the Future scheme (BSF),  a government investment programme in secondary school buildings. We have also built new classroom blocks and carried out numerous routine maintenance works such as flat roof repairs, rewiring and window replacement. This year we will be working on a range of different planned maintenance projects including;

  • replacing ceilings
  • adding LED lighting to a 20 year old teaching block
  • recovering aged flat roofs
  • resurfacing work in the play ground
  • replacing large glazed screens
  • developing a uniform shop
  • building a new administration office

Planned property maintenance is an essential part of protecting a school's built assets. Hookway provides schools with a comprehensive maintenance package, helping to proactively maintain their buildings and also ensure that they meet compliance regulations. We also offer professional support and advice whenever required, providing our client with peace of mind.

A clear and sympathetic understanding of the educational sector

Our long involvement in the construction, maintenance and improvement of schools and colleges has allowed us to develop a clear and sympathetic understanding of the educational sector and the DfE. Our expertise in the education sector has evolved over fifty years through our continuous work with Voluntary Aided Schools for Church of England and Roman Catholic Dioceses. We have also worked extensively on almost every kind of school and college, whether it be private, state aided or grant maintained.

Testimonial

“Our old sports hall has now been transformed into a multi-purpose performance space with a professional stage lighting and sound rig. What a transformation! Tom Bishop from Hookway listened very carefully to our requirements and then went about designing the new Norton Hill Arts Theatre. With cherry panelling and sound absorbent materials the main room has amazing acoustics, perfect for concerts and performances alike.”

“Hookway have been fantastic for us, they have prepared all of our bids and CIF has made huge difference to our buildings over recent years. ”

“Hookway has been vital in the process of applying for this funding. We handed them responsibility and they delivered a concise and detailed package of information which included everything required to submit to Salix. They made it easy and took it out of our hands. We can happily say that Hookway was crucial to us being successful and we look forward to working with them on the 2nd phase of application. ”
